Description

The KCCR Annual Registry Meeting, themed "Beyond Implementation: Building a Sustainable Future for the Kenya Critical Care Registry for National Impact," was held on 6–7 June 2026 at Serena Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa. The two-day meeting brought together critical care clinicians, researchers, nurses, research assistants, and international collaborators to review the registry's progress, share research findings, and develop a strategic road-map for the registry's sustainability and national expansion. Sessions covered a range of topics, including antimicrobial stewardship, climate and health, ICU out-of-pocket expenses, paediatric critical care, nursing quality improvement, and public health policy. The afternoon of Day 2 was dedicated to structured breakout group discussions on research priorities, nursing and QI, and public health, with outputs feeding directly into the registry's action plan.

Objectives

1. To review and share research findings generated through the Kenya Critical Care Registry across participating sites. 2. To identify and prioritize research questions that can be pursued through registry data. 3. To explore sustainable models for the long-term operation of the KCCR. 4. To develop concrete action plans across three thematic areas: research, nursing and quality improvement, and public health. 5. To strengthen collaboration between KCCR sites, national institutions, and international partners. 6. To build the capacity of site leads, research assistants, and emerging researchers within the KCCR network.
