Description

The training involves strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers to correctly implement HIV testing algorithms in accordance with national HIV testing guidelines. It focuses on the appropriate selection and sequencing of HIV rapid diagnostic tests, accurate interpretation and documentation of results, quality assurance, and adherence to procedures for confirming HIV-positive results before diagnosis. The training also emphasizes client confidentiality, informed consent, pre-test and post-test counselling, and linkage to appropriate HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.

Objectives

The objectives of the HIV testing algorithms training are to: Enhance knowledge and skills of healthcare workers on the correct implementation of the approved national HIV testing algorithm. Improve accuracy of HIV diagnosis by ensuring correct test sequencing, interpretation, recording, and reporting of results. Strengthen quality assurance through adherence to testing procedures, quality control measures, and proper handling of HIV testing kits and supplies. Promote compliance with national guidelines and standard operating procedures for HIV testing services. Ensure client-centred HIV testing services through informed consent, confidentiality, counselling, and respectful care. Strengthen linkage to services by ensuring clients receive appropriate referrals to HIV treatment, prevention, and other relevant health services. Reduce HIV misdiagnosis by ensuring inconclusive or discordant results are managed appropriately and positive diagnoses are verified according to national guidelines.
