Description

Activity Description The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course at the Kenya Red Cross Training Institute (KRCTI) is an intensive, competency-based programme designed for healthcare professionals involved in the management of cardiovascular emergencies. The course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognize and manage cardiac arrest, peri-arrest conditions, acute coronary syndromes, stroke, and other life-threatening emergencies using evidence-based resuscitation guidelines. Through interactive lectures, skills stations, simulation exercises, and team-based scenarios, participants develop the confidence and competence to provide effective advanced life support in both in-hospital and pre-hospital settings.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to: Recognize and promptly manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies using the ACLS systematic approach. Demonstrate high-quality CPR and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and manual defibrillator. Perform advanced airway management and ventilation techniques. Interpret common cardiac rhythms and initiate appropriate treatment interventions. Apply ACLS algorithms for cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia, acute coronary syndromes, and stroke. Demonstrate effective team dynamics, communication, and leadership during resuscitation. Safely administer emergency cardiovascular medications in accordance with current resuscitation guidelines. Integrate evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes during cardiovascular emergencies.
